Abraham has this thing where he says a restaurant isn't a building — it's a neighbor. We've been on Cherry Ave since 1997 and 24th Street for over a decade. In that time, we've seen kids grow up, businesses come and go, and neighborhoods change around us. Through all of it, we try to be the kind of neighbor who shows up.
We sponsor local Little League and youth soccer teams in San Bruno. Abraham coached his kids' teams when they were growing up, and even though they're older now, the sponsorships stayed. Every spring, a bunch of 10-year-olds show up in jerseys with "Big Mouth Burgers" across the back. It never gets old.
We partner with elementary and middle schools in both neighborhoods for fundraiser nights. The school picks a date, promotes it to families, and we donate a percentage of sales that evening. It's simple, it works, and the kids get burgers. Everyone wins.
During the pandemic, we delivered free burger trays to hospitals, fire stations, and police departments across San Mateo County and San Francisco. Abraham loaded up his truck personally. We didn't post about it on social media because that wasn't the point. People were working 16-hour shifts in masks — the least we could do was bring them lunch.
We hire from the neighborhood. Always have. Most of our staff live within a few miles of the restaurant. Some of our cooks started as dishwashers in high school and never left. We don't have a corporate hiring portal — you walk in, ask for Abraham, and if he likes you, you start next week.
Six years in a row — 2017 through 2022 — the Mission District voted us a Nextdoor Neighborhood Favorite. This award comes from the people who live on our block, not from a food critic or an algorithm. It means more to us than any Michelin star ever could. Our neighbors chose us, over and over, and we don't take that lightly.
